LEAGUE OF LEGENDS (LOL) is it worth the time?

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

Should I, or shouldn't I?

What is it?

Hi everyone, Panter here today topic is League of Legends. I've personally been playing LOL for almost 5 years now, I can say I know a thing or two, but before we get to what I think of LOL. First, let me describe what it is.

League of Legends, also known as LOL, is a highly popular online multiplayer video game, developed and published by Riot Games. There are many different types of games with their type of genre in this gaming world. This one is a MOBA type of game (multiplayer online battle arena). League of Legends is a popular online video game where two teams of five players each battle it out to destroy the other team's base which has a big crystal also known as the NEXUS while defending their own. To do this each player controls a unique character known as a "champion"

In League of Legends, there are different roles and positions that players can take:

  1. Top Lane: This player goes to the top part of the map and usually plays a durable champion who can handle solo fights.

  2. Jungle: The jungle roams the map, defeats monsters, and helps teammates by attacking enemy lanes. They also secure important objectives.

  3. Mid Lane: Mid-laners play champions with strong damage or control abilities, usually in the middle of the map.

  4. Bot Lane (Duo Lane): The bot lane consists of two players - the AD Carry (deals damage) and the Support (helps and protects the AD Carry).

  5. Support: Supports assist the AD Carry and the team, offering crowd control and vision.

Each role has its responsibilities and each champion has special unique abilities. Now Teamwork is crucial to winning the game. Players must work together to defeat enemy champions, minions, and turrets while also protecting their base.

It's a go.

I have to say it did take me a while to get used to the gameplay and speed of the game. I'm used to fast-action games, and FPS (first-person shooter) like Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Halo. and a few other types of genre game types. The graphics are smooth and clear. No glitches and no hacking of any sort.

This game is fun but also nerve-racking. Is what some would say is a love-hate relationship type of game. You can be winning for half of the game then bang the table turns and you start losing. or vice versa. One of the things I like about the game is you get to team up with your friends, up to 5 can play per match. If you work together, you can't be unstoppable. It does take you to think outside of your box and work as a team. This is not a one-person show. One falls everyone falls. Since it is a team game, the game itself can take long. I mean long. So, before playing a match, get your drinks ready on the side, snacks, and anything else that keeps you going. Games can be 20, 30, or 40 minutes long. I'm not kidding. to the point, that some just want to quit and take a loss. Yes, that long so be prepared.

I do think matchmaking is great, even thou they do have Un-ranked and ranked, but I also think It lacks on having different types of gameplay and maps. Not to bring Heroes of the Storm in here, but just comparing. The same type of gameplay (MOBA) but they have different maps and game styles of play such as "protect the VIP", "Capture the objective", "escort", and many more. Even Pokémon Unite for Switch (MOBA) has many styles. If League of Legends can adapt some of these ideas, or add new ones, I do believe it can rise to the next level in the MOBA world.

The Final thoughts

I don't consider myself an expert gamer in LOL, or any other game, but I do know my stuff.

In conclusion, League of Legends does offer a diverse and strategic gameplay experience with different positions and roles for players to choose from. Teamwork and understanding each position's responsibilities are key to winning in this type of multiplayer game. So don't give up fast, you will get the hang of it. Also be ready to give time to play the game, like I mentioned before it may take a while for someone to win the match.
